about

Induction Furnace is a group of sonic compositions derived from signal input provided by proprietary bio-sensors, fed into an Eventide Orville Harmonizer. These sensors are heard responding to sounds from the natural world and space.

Certain bio-sensors act much like a Theremin, reacting to anything entering their field. Others extract small voltages from plant leaves and even rock. Still others house fungal spores within specially designed electric components. In our experience, the living tissue adds a significant aesthetic component to the sounds.

At the biological level, the subtle energy fields that constitute life are intermingled with electricity and magnetism. Nuances of this life energy can be captured by the sensors. The signal is transformed into sound, undergoes processioning to make it sonically complex, and is then recorded. When responding to any other sounds in their environment, including those of other plants, etc., the sensors will interpret them sonically as a complementary voice or chorus. The result is literally an "Induction Furnace."
